CCR Interview: Zac, Complete Philly Coverage

The 2014-15 college basketball season is officially under way, and teams are in full preparation mode for the upcoming season. Our Twitter feed was full of teams sharing photos of the guys back on the court, working hard to get ready for the upcoming season and we couldn’t be happier.

In the weeks leading up to the 2014-15 season, we will be reaching out to NCAA coaches, players, and fellow bloggers to discuss different things going on around college hoops. We will look at what people are expecting for the 2014-15 season to get their opinions on a wide variety of topics.

Yesterday, I had the chance to chat with Zac, who is the founder of Complete Philly Coverage, which is a Philadelphia-focused sports blog. If you haven’t been there before, check it out here. Zac is a season ticket holder for the UNC Wilmington Seahawks men’s basketball team. We asked him questions that were focused on the Seahawks team, like what to expect this season and what caused the Seahawks’ struggles last season, from a fan’s point of view.

CCR: As a season ticket holder for UNCW, you see a lot of games first-hand. Last season, UNCW struggled to a 3 – 13 record in conference play. What is the biggest thing that will need to change this year for the Seahawks to be successful?

CPC: They have to buy into Kevin Keatts’ new system. They’ve got a new head coach with lots of experience from coaching under Pitino at Louisville.

CCR: Where did the Seahawks go wrong last season? What was the main reason for their struggles, in your opinion?

CPC: Lack of leadership. Buzz Peterson didn’t have confidence in his squad at times, and it showed during games. We have talent, but a lack of organization and leadership are the reasons for our long losing streak last season.

CCR: Who will be the leader for the Seahawks on the floor this season, and what do they bring to the team?

CPC: Honestly, I don’t know the answer to that. I can guess that the leader will be either senior forward Cedrick Williams or senior guard Freddie Jackson. Both can be explosive players, and if utilized correctly, both can contribute greatly to this team.

CCR: The Seahawks were picked 9th in the Colonial preseason poll. Do you think this is an accurate ranking of their talent, or is it too high / too low?

CPC: Another tough question. It will come down to their heart and trust in their new coach. They could finish top five…they could also end up in the cellar. Guys need to step up this year, and take newer, bigger roles. We shall see if they live up to the challenge.

CCR: In one word, or a few, describe this year’s edition of the Seahawks.

CPC: New and (hopefully) improved.

CCR: Last question…as a fan, what opponent, or opponents, are you looking forward to seeing the Seahawks play this season?

CPC: I’m looking forward to seeing them play Louisville and Minnesota on the road, and our rival East Carolina at home.

CCR:  Perfect! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, and for providing us with some insight into the UNC Wilmington Seahawks ands what to expect this season.

CPC: No problem! Thanks for taking the time to do this!

I would like to personally thank our friend Zac from Complete Philly Coverage for taking the time out of his schedule to answer some questions about the UNC Wilmington Seahawks. While the team struggled last season, they have some talented seniors that will do everything they can to make the team a challenge in the Colonial this season.
