On the heels of a successful launch in advance of the 2014-15 college basketball regular season, the Mascot Mayhem Challenge was brought back for a second year in a row. With a new field of mascots set to battle it out, and a new title sponsor in RabbleTV, the 2nd Annual Mascot Mayhem Challenge, presented by RabbleTV, was back once more.

Last season, Harry the Hawk took home the inaugural title for the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks. After the contest, he retired from mascot competitions but his nephew, HH3, assumed the duties for the Hawks. He set out to defend the school’s title, and was gaining a ton of momentum heading into the finals. He earned his spot in the Championship match by taking out Peter the Anteater of UC Irvine.

On the flip side, Sam the Minuteman was making his first trip to the Championship Match after narrowly missing out a year ago. The mascot for the Massachusetts Minutemen has made the Final Four in each of the contest’s first two seasons, and was in a much better position than a year prior. Like his counter-part, HH3, fans were getting behind Sam the Minuteman and he was propelled into the finals as his voting totals increased over the course of the challenge.

The contest was in store for a high-powered battle in the finals, and that is exactly what we got.

After over two months of voting, and over 30,000 votes cast over the online polls, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, we have our winner!

The winner of the 2nd Annual Mascot Mayhem Challenge, presented by RabbleTV, is…

…Sam the Minuteman of Massachusetts!!!

In the finals, Sam the Minuteman took down the defending champion Maryland-Eastern Shore and HH3 to take home the title. Over 12,000 votes were cast in the Championship Match alone, making it the highest total number of votes in a single match-up in the contest’s brief history!

In the early going, HH3 raced out a big lead thanks to a heavy presence in the online polls. Sam the Minuteman was leaving his mark on Instagram and Twitter, but it was clear that the title would be won or lost in the online polls.

As the contest entered the final week of voting, Sam the Minuteman started to mount a comeback. A ferocious push on the polls pushed Sam into the lead with three days to go in the finals, and he never looked back from there on out.

After the sting of narrowly missing out on the Championship Match a year ago, Sam the Minuteman made sure he took advantage of his appearance in the finals.

Coming out of the West Region, Sam the Minuteman took down Canisius’ Petey Griffin in the Final Four to gain the momentum he needed to take down the mighty UMES Hawks and HH3 in the finals.

The final standings are as follows:

  1. Sam the Minuteman – Massachusetts Minutemen
  2. HH3 – Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks
  3. Peter the Anteaer – UC Irvine Anteaters
  4. Petey – Canisius Golden Griffins

All four of these mascots will be the top seeds in next year’s challenge, in the search for the NCAA’s Top Mascot for the 2016-17 season.

For right now, the Massachusetts Minutemen are the home of the NCAA’s top mascot in the NCAA, and his name is none other than Sam the Minuteman!
