If the 2015 Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament was any indication, we are in for an unpredictable 2016 edition of the marquee event.

This season saw the likes of Gonzaga, Texas, Texas A&M, Connecticut, Michigan, Charlotte, Washington, and Syracuse ascend on Paradise Island, Bahamas for the 2015 Battle 4 Atlantis. Four of the teams (Gonzaga, Texas A&M, Connecticut, and Michigan) started the season ranked inside the top 25, and looked like the front-runners for the title.

However, it was unranked Syracuse who pushed their record to 6-0 to start the season and came away with the tournament title. They knocked off Connecticut and Texas A&M on back-to-back days to take home the hardware. They should find themselves ranked comfortably inside the top 25 rankings come Monday, November 30th.

On the heels of the Orange winning the tournament, the field was announced for the 2016 edition of the Battle 4 Atlantis. The field will be loaded once again next season, as it is decorated with perennial contenders from power conferences and dominant mid-major programs.

The list of teams heading down to take part in the 2016 Battle 4 Atlantis is a star-studded one from top to bottom. The teams partaking in next year’s festivities are: Michigan State, Louisville, Wichita State, Baylor, VCU, St. John’s, LSU, and Old Dominion.

A lot of these teams will have new looks to them in comparison to this year’s teams. Michigan State will be without star guard Denzel Valentine, Wichita State will be without Ron Baker and Fred Van Vleet and could be without head coach Gregg Marshall, and LSU could be without star freshman Ben Simmons.

Despite the absence of key players from this year’s edition of the teams, the tournament will still be a fun one to watch. The Spartans bring in a high-profile recruiting class and will be one of the nation’s best teams. Louisville, Baylor, and Wichita State are always top contenders in their respective conferences. Old Dominion has been a tough out the past couple of seasons, and next year will be no different.

The Battle 4 Atlantis tournament attracts some of the nation’s top programs, and gives fans some great basketball action. Next season’s field will be no exception, as we will get to see great contests from start to finish.
