Over the past few years, the Ivy League has been dominated by the likes of the Harvard CrimsonPrinceton Tigers, and the Yale Bulldogs. Teams like the Brown Bears have struggled to contend with the top teams in the conference, and the 2016-17 season could be another ‘transition’ year in Providence, Rhode Island.

The 2016-17 edition of the Bears will look a little different in comparison to last year’s team. Cedric Kuakumensah has graduated, and the Massey brothers have transferred to Florida Atlantic, leaving massive holes in the roster. Fortunately, the Bears return a talented back court led by Tavon Blackmon and Steven Spieth, the brother of PGA Tour star Jordan Spieth.

If the guards can put up some big numbers, and the newcomers can get accustomed to the NCAA relatively quickly, the Bears cold climb out of the basement and into the middle of the Ivy League standings. A tough non-conference schedule will test Brown this season, but there are some winnable home games that will give the team a confidence boost moving forwards.
