Last season, the Austin Peay Governors were one of the biggest surprises come NCAA Tournament time.
As the 8-seed, they came away with the Ohio Valley Conference tournament title, punching their ticket to the Big Dance in the process. Senior forward Chris Horton led the way for the Governors.
This season, with Horton having graduated following Austin Peay’s run to the tournament, Josh Robinson has taken on a lead role for the team. With the junior guard leading the way, the Governors have gone 3-2 to start the season.
Over the past seven days, Austin Peay went 3-1 over their four games, three of which were apart of the Tarkett Sports Classic in Oxford, OH.
Austin Peay went 2-1 in the event, thanks in large part to the play of Robinson.
After averaging 21.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per contest, Austin Peay guard Josh Robinson was tabbed by the fans as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for November 14th-20th!
Fans were able to cast their votes on Twitter last evening and into Monday morning, and Robinson received the most votes out of the four players in the running for the award.
To open the week, the Governors took on Oakland City University. In their 107-67 victory, Robinson put together an all-round impressive game. He scored a game-high 17 points to go along with 7 assists, 6 steals, and 5 rebounds.
A few nights later, Robinson topped his performance from earlier in the week.
Against the Northern Kentucky Norse to open the Tarkett Sports Classic, Robinson scored a game-high 31 points, on 11-of-16 shooting, and added 5 rebounds and 3 assists in the Governors’ 77-69 come-from-behind win over the Norse.
After a 13-point, 4-assist performance against the Miami (OH) Redhawks, Robinson closed out the week on a high note.
Against the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens on Sunday, Robinson recorded 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in the Governors’ 76-75 win. Robinson got a layup to fall in the closing seconds to send Austin Peay to the win.
During the game, Robinson also topped the 1,000 point mark for his career at Austin Peay, which is an impressive feat in its own right.
Over the week, Robinson averaged 21.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, while helping lead Austin Peay to a combined 3-1 record in their four contests. On the season, Robinson is shooting 47.4% from the field, and 39.5% from three point range.
While the Governors sit at 3-2 overall, they appear to be trending upwards. With the play of Robinson also trending upwards, the Governors could very well replicate last year’s tournament run again come March.
After leading Austin Peay to a 3-1 record over the past seven days, and topping the 1,000 career point mark with the program, junior guard Josh Robinson was voted on Twitter as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Game for the week of November 14th-20th!
