“We played Syracuse this year, but I can’t say we have played against a better basketball than [Joe] Cremo.”
Those were the words from Colgate Raiders‘ head coach Matt Langel following the Raiders’ 74-66 loss to the Albany Great Danes.
It was some high praise for the second-year guard, who is the leading scorer for the Great Danes at this point in the season, but praise that is well deserved.
Cremo has blossomed into a star for Albany, and his talents were on full display over the past seven days.
In two games, Cremo averaged 26.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per contest. Albany went a perfect 2-0 over the week, winning both contests by an average of 10 points.
For his efforts, sophomore guard Joe Cremo was tabbed the College Court Report Co-Fan Voted Player of the Week for December 5 – 11, 2016!
Northern Iowa Panthers’ guard Jeremy Morgan was also named Co-Fan Voted Player of the Week, as voted on by basketball fans via Twitter.
Up first for the Great Danes on the week was a home date against the Marist Red Foxes on Wednesday. Albany came into the game riding a mini two-game losing streak, and were looking to get back to their winning ways.
Behind 24 points and 7 assists from Cremo, the Great Danes ended their slide with a 78-66 win over the Red Foxes. Cremo finished the game going 9-of-19 from the floor, and also pulled down 6 rebounds in the victory.
Three nights later, the Great Danes went on the road to take on the aforementioned Colgate Raiders. Looking to extend their winning streak to two, Albany got another strong performance from Cremo.
In Albany’s 74-66 victory, Cremo scored a season-high 29 points, while going 9-of-14 from the floor and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line. He also added 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals on the night for his second straight solid performance.
Over the course of the two games, Cremo averaged 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, while leading Albany to two wins. He shot a combined 18-of-33 (54.5%) from the floor, and 15-of-17 (88.2%) from the free throw line.
For the year, he is now averaging a team-best 17.0 points per contest, to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
Cremo is undoubtedly one of the top rising stars in the NCAA, let alone the America East Conference. With the likes of Peter Hooley and Ray Sanders having moved on after last season, the Great Danes were in need of one of their younger players to step up and take a lead role on offense.
That’s exactly what Joe Cremo has done.
For his efforts over the past seven days, a stretch that included a season-high 29 point performance, sophomore guard Joe Cremo has been tabbed by the fans as the College Court Report Co-Fan Voted Player of the Week for December 5 – 11, 2016!
