The Notre Dame Fighting Irish added a third player to their class of 2018 on Wednesday night when 6-4 shooting guard Dane Goodwin committed to the Irish via Twitter
Notre Dame has been very successful in their recruiting efforts lately as they have now successfully added three top 100 players to their class of 2018 and one transfer eligible for the 2018-19 season.
While the class of 2017 did yield DJ Harvey, a talented shooting guard from Maryland likely to make an immediate impact this upcoming season, it gave Irish fans a little bit of a concern that recruiting was an issue for the up and coming Notre Dame basketball program.
Adding three ESPN top 100 prospects as well as a PF transfer should ease the recruiting concerns and give proof that Notre Dame is starting to attract top talent.
Dane Goodwin comes from Columbus, Ohio and is considered the #91 overall player as well as the #4 player in the state of Ohio per 247Sports.
Goodwin actually committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes back in December but eventually opened up his recruitment in June. 247Sports is still predicting the Buckeyes to eventually come away with the Ohio native, but Mike Brey and company have been very successful with keeping the player that have committed to them.
At a first glance, Goodwin loves to use his size and long arms to his advantage. He did play some forward in high school and could be seen posting up some opponents. However like most people know, college is a different game.
The Ohio native reminds me of Irish guard Rex Pflueger; has a great shot, very versatile, and can finish at the net despite contact.
It is hard to say how much playing time Goodwin will receive in his freshman season. Another year of high school will be good for Goodwin so he can bulk up and play more the position he will play in college. A red shirt may be in line for him in 2018 depending on how certain players do in 2017.
Notre Dame currently holds the #4 spot in 247Sports’ school recruiting rankings.
