CANMORE, Alta. — Twenty-five days.

As of Monday, October 16th, we are exactly 25 days away from the start of the 2017-18 college basketball season. Teams are in full practice mode now, trying to fine tune their approach before games kick off on November 10th.

But, before then, there’s still an award that needs to be handed out.

The 4th Annual College Court Report Mascot Mayhem Challenge is down to the Elite Eight after another intense week of voting. Two powerhouse mascots continued to roll, while two of the match-ups had a bit of extra incentive for the schools involved.

Take a look below to see who has advanced to the Elite Eight!

Highlights from the Sweet 16

A pair of rivalries were settled off the court

In the Sweet 16, there were two rivalry pairings that saw schools go head-to-head for supremacy and some bragging rights over the other.

In the South Region, we had an all-Buffalo match-up, as Victor E. Bull went toe-to-toe with Petey Griffin. On Twitter, both athletic departments for the Buffalo Bulls and Canisius Golden Griffins got behind their respective mascot as they competed for a spot in the Elite Eight.

When the dust settled, Petey Griffin advanced to yet another Elite Eight appearance, this time at the expense of his close rival.

Then, in the North Region, The Bird, representing the Air Force Falcons, squared off against Bill, representing the Navy Midshipmen. Both mascots have had a strong following over the course of the challenge, despite not having a big social media presence to campaign for votes.

It was expected to be a close pairing, and it lived up to expectations. In the end, it was Bill who prevailed over The Bird to advance to the Elite Eight, and one step closer to the title of ‘Top Mascot in the NCAA’.
