CANMORE, Alta. — The 4th Annual College Court Report Mascot Mayhem Challenge is now down to its final two mascots who are vying for the title of ‘Top Mascot in the NCAA’.
With the 2017-18 college basketball season less than two weeks away, fans across the country are buzzing with excitement about their respective teams. Several teams have taken part in disaster relief games to raise funds for relief efforts across North America and other parts of the world, which has only added to the buzz.
But, before the season kicks off, there’s one more week of voting in the Mascot Mayhem Challenge to determine the winner.
The Final Four saw two familiar faces taking part, including last year’s winner. Then, there was a newcomer to the challenge entirely, and one who has been a mainstay over the four years, but was in their first Final Four.
After a strong week of voting, the Championship pairing has been set! Take a peek and see who will be vying for the title next week.
Final Four Results
WuShock (Wichita State; West Region) – 80.67%
Boomer (Missouri State; East Region) – 19.33%
For the fourth year in a row, we will crown a new Top Mascot in the NCAA. Boomer, who won last year’s challenge, was unable to advance back to the Finals for a second year in a row.
Last season, WuShock lost in the Sweet 16 to another member of this year’s Final Four, in Canisius’ Petey Griffin. This season, WuShock has consistently been the top vote-getter in each round, and his roll carried him into the Championship in convincing fashion.
When Boomer won his title last season, he defeated the previous champion to do so, in Sam the Minuteman. After a convincing win in the Final Four, is a Mascot Mayhem title on the horizon for WuShock?
In a week, we’ll find out!
Bill (Navy; North Region) – 65.28%
Petey Griffin (Canisius; South Region) – 34.72%
Petey Griffin has advanced to the Final Four in each of the past three seasons, and was in the Championship pairing a season ago. But, once again, he has fallen just short on his quest to become the Top Mascot in the NCAA.
Over the course of the challenge, Bill has received a steady, yet quiet stream of support from Navy Midshipmen fans. Without a clear-cut presence on social media, Bill has picked up team with each passing week, disposing his mascot counterparts without any real challenge.
Early on, the voting was close. But, as the week moved along, Bill began to stretch his lead. Canisius fans tried to close the gap over the weekend, but Bill’s lead was too much to overcome in the end.
Voting in the Championship Round begins the morning of Monday, October 30th, and runs through Sunday, November 5th. The winner of the 4th Annual College Court Report Mascot Mayhem Challenge will be announced on Monday, November 6th!
