Wichita State’s WuShock named Top Mascot in the NCAA

WuShock is one of the more popular and well-known mascots in the NCAA. After six weeks of voting, WuShock is now known as the Top Mascot in the NCAA, as he took home the title in the 4th Annual #CCRMascotMayhem Challenge!

WICHITA, Ks. — The 2017-18 college basketball season kicks off this week, and the Wichita State Shockers already have a title to their name.

In the six weeks leading up to the 2017-18 season, College Court Report operated its 4th Annual Mascot Mayhem Challenge, in search of the NCAA’s Top Mascot. In a bracket-style tournament, 68 of the top mascots from across the country were randomly selected into four regions, and fans voted each week for their favourites.

The Final Four saw mascots from four different conferences represented. Two familiar faces found their way back to the Final Four, while one newcomer to the challenge advanced all the way to the Championship pairing.

What once started with 68 mascots back on September 22nd came to a close on November 5th, and only one mascot was left standing.

The Championship saw Wichita State’s WuShock square off against Bill, representing the Navy Midshipmen. Both mascots had gained support with each passing week of the challenge, but only one could come away as the Top Mascot in the NCAA.

After the dust settled, the winner of the 4th Annual #CCRMascotMayhem Challenge was none other than…

…WuShock!

In convincing fashion, WuShock cruised past Bill to take home the title of Top Mascot in the NCAA.

For the fourth year in a row, a different mascot has won the title in advance of the college basketball season commencing.

WuShock joins the now-retired HH3 (Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks, 2014), Sam the Minuteman (Massachusetts Minutemen, 2015), and Boomer (Missouri State Bears, 2016) as winners of the challenge.

Over the course of the challenge, WuShock gained more and more fan support with each passing week. From day one, it was clear that the Shockers’ mascot was a favourite to take home this year’s title, but as we have seen in the past, anything can happen when it comes to fan support challenges.

Through a steady support on social media, Wichita State fans came out in flocks to show their support for their beloved mascot. It all culminated in a title, and the Championship pairing wasn’t all that close once the polls opened early Monday morning.

Bill, the mascot for the Midshipmen, didn’t have much support through social media, but his support level increased with each passing week. Ultimately, it propelled him into the Finals, but he was up against an unstoppable force in the Wichita State fan base.

The goal of the challenge each season is to help generate a positive buzz at schools across the NCAA, while providing people with another avenue to showcase their school spirit. It’s a fun way to get people involved with their institutions, and it settles a debate as to who has the Top Mascot in the NCAA.

This year, that title heads to Wichita, Kansas, as WuShock is the Top Mascot in the NCAA for the 2017-18 season!

All four mascots who advanced to this year’s Final Four will be the top seeds in each of the four regional brackets in next season’s College Court Report Mascot Mayhem Challenge!

Below are the mascots that WuShock knocked off, en route to claiming this year’s title:

Round of 64: def. Victor E. Viking (Northern Kentucky)

The Wichita State Shockers open their 2017-18 college basketball season on Friday, November 10th with a home date against the UMKC ‘Roos. The nation’s top mascot will be patrolling the sidelines, cheering on the home team as they enter their first season as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
