CANMORE, Alta. — Coming into the week, the UT Martin Skyhawks had just one win to their name in 2017-18, and they were looking to get back on the right track before taking five days off from game action for exams.
Fortunately for the Skyhawks, junior forward Fatodd Lewis had a pair of big performances in his back pocket to lead the attack and get the team heading in the right direction.
In their win over the North Carolina Central Eagles back on November 15th, Lewis recorded his first career double-double, going for 15 points and 11 rebounds in the Skyhawks’ 74-57 win at home.
Fast forward to this week, and the Skyhawks were still sitting on that lone win. After the past week, a pair of games that saw Lewis stuff the stat sheet on back-to-back occasions, UT Martin has now won two straight games, and are undefeated this season when Lewis records at least a double-double.
For his efforts this past week, UT Martin junior forward Fatodd Lewis has been selected as the College Court Report Player of the Week for December 4 – 10, 2017!
Over the Skyhawks’ two games this past week, both of which were wins, Lewis averaged 28.5 points, 15 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. He also shot a combined 22-of-38 (57.9%) from the floor to cap off his career week.
Against the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Tuesday, Lewis recorded his second double-double of the season. He posted 23 points and 14 rebounds, guiding the Skyhawks to the 92-78 win on the road over a formidable Red Wolves’ program.
Lewis was 9-of-12 from the floor, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the win.
Then, on Sunday, Lewis one-upped himself as UT Martin was looking for a second straight win.
Against the Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars, Lewis recorded a triple-double to help lead his team to the 127-92 victory in an unexpected offensive showcase put on by both teams. Lewis posted a career-high 34 points, while pulling down a career-best 16 rebounds and dishing out 12 assists in the win, also a career high.
He continued to be effective from the floor, going 13-of-26 on the afternoon, and 8-of-10 from the line.
This season, Lewis has scored in double-figures on six occasions, including each of his last three games. The 6’8” forward from Memphis, TN has shown flashes of being able to hit shots from beyond the three point arc, while also being highly effective in the paint and around the basket.
In terms of the exam break, it couldn’t have come at a worse time for Lewis and the Skyhawks, who are just starting to find their groove on the offensive end of the floor. Having a week off in between games may derail some of their positive momentum moving forwards, but only time will tell what type of effect this break has on their momentum.
The Skyhawks return to the court on Saturday, December 16th when the visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
UT Martin is now a perfect 3-0 this season when Lewis records at least a double-double. Their 127 points against the [NAME] was just two points shy of the single-game school record of 129, set back on December 17th, 1986.
For his efforts this past week, a stretch of games that saw him post a triple-double and a career-high for points in the same game, UT-Martin forward Fatodd Lewis is the College Court Report Player of the Week for December 4 – 10, 2017!
