If there’s one thing about college basketball fans, it’s that they will go to great lengths to ensure that players on their favourite teams get the respect they deserve.

That has been seen week in and week out with our Fan-Voted Player of the Week awards this season. Each week, fans come out to support their players, and show their appreciation for the hard work the players put into their craft each time they step onto the court.

This week was no different, as fans of the Sacramento State Hornets came out in full force to support one of their talented big men.

The Hornets have the luxury of rolling out three talented forwards on a nightly basis. With Justin Strings, Eric Stuteville, and Nick Hornsby patrolling the front court, the Hornets can create all kinds of problems for opposing teams in the Big Sky.

Over the past seven days, Hornsby was a handful for his opponents. Sacramento State took home two big road wins this past week, and the 6’7” Hornsby was a big reason why. He recorded a pair of double-doubles, while shooting above 50% in both games to lead the way for the Hornets.

For his efforts this past week, the fans came out to show their support for the Irvine, CA native. Nick Hornsby was selected as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for the week of January 9 – 15, 2017, receiving a whopping 93% of the fan vote!

Jahad Thomas recorded the first triple-double in program history on Saturday in the River Hawks’ 71-55 win over Hartford.

Recording a triple-double at any level is an impressive feat, unless your name is Russell Westbrook, where it’s becoming more of a feat when he doesn’t record a triple-double in a game.

When you record the  first triple-double in program history, it becomes even more special. For guard Jahad Thomas, that’s exactly what he did on Saturday afternoon for the UMass-Lowell River Hawks against the Hartford Hawks.

It was the culmination of another strong week for the native of Williamsport, PA. Over his career with the River Hawks, Thomas has regularly stuffed box score, and the 2016-17 season is no different. He has been on quite the roll on an individual level since the start of the season, and has the River Hawks near the top of the America East standings after their first four conference games.

For his efforts this past week, a stretch of two games where he averaged a double-double and etched his name into the history books twice, junior guard Jahad Thomas has been named the College Court Report Player of the Week for the week of January 9 – 15, 2017! Senior guard Daniel Dixon has scored in double figures in eight straight for the Tribe, a stretch that has included two 30+ point performances.
Senior guard Daniel Dixon has scored in double figures in eight straight games for the Tribe, a stretch that has included a pair of 30+ point performances.

Over the past few years, it seems as though the William & Mary Tribe are always near the top of the standings in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) come conference tournament time.

They emerged as a perennial contender a couple of years back, when guard Marcus Thornton was terrorizing opponents. Fast forward to this year, and it’s another senior guard who is causing all kinds of headaches for opponents.

Meet Great Falls, VA native Daniel Dixon, a four-year senior for the Tribe who is having himself quite the year in 2016-17.

The 6’6” guard has had himself a strong career with the Tribe, but he saved his best season for his last. Dixon is averaging career-best marks in point, rebounds, and assists per game, while shooting a career-best 46.3% from the field.

This past week was more of the same from Dixon. In two wins for the Tribe, he stuffed the box score on both occasions, shooting lights out in the process. He also put up his second 30+ point performance in a span of four games.

In an online poll, Tribe fans came out in full force to show support for their senior guard. Thanks to his big time performances, Daniel Dixon has been selected by the fans as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for January 2 – 8, 2017!

Over Marshall's three wins this past week, senior forward Ryan Taylor averaged 25.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per contest.
Over Marshall’s three wins this past week, senior forward Ryan Taylor averaged 25.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per contest.

If you would have said before the season started that the team atop the Conference USA standings after the first two weeks of conference play would be the Marshall Thundering Herd, some would have said you were crazy.

What’s even crazier, at least to some, is that it’s actually the case.

The Thundering Herd, armed with one of the more electric offenses in the country, are currently 4-0 against Conference USA foes, and are a half-game ahead of the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders for top spot. Marshall has topped the 100-point mark three occasions, going 2-1 in those games.

Four players have played in at least 14 games this year, and are averaging 11.6 points per game, or more.

One of those players is senior forward Ryan Taylor, who is stuffing the stat sheet despite missing three games earlier in the year.

This past week was no different for the big man. The Thundering Herd took to the hardwood three times, and came away with three impressive wins. Taylor was a big part of all three, recording three double-doubles in the wins.

For his efforts over the past seven days, a stretch that saw him average 25.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per contest, Marshall forward Ryan Taylor has been named the College Court Report Player of the Week for January 2 – 8, 2017!

College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week: Alec Wintering, Portland Pilots

Alec Wintering averaged 24.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game this past week, leading the Pilots to two wins to open up conference play.
Alec Wintering averaged 24.5 points and 7.0 assists per game this past week, leading the Pilots to two wins to open up conference play.

He may not get the national attention that he deserves, which is a crime in its own right, but Portland Pilots‘ senior guard Alec Wintering is one of the premier guards in the entire NCAA.

Over his entire collegiate career, the native of Charlotte, NC has done it all for the Pilots.

Wintering has averaged at least 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in each season at Portland, while shooting at least 43.4% from the field in each of the last three years. He regularly stuffs the stat sheet, which makes it even more puzzling as to why more people aren’t talking about him and his talents.

We’ve been high on him over the past two seasons, and he keeps giving us more reasons to be excited about his future prospects.

This past week was no different, as he helped to lead the Pilots to two big wins in conference play to close out 2016 on a high note. Wintering averaged 23.5 points and 7.0 assists in the Pilots’ two wins last week, putting them a perfect 2-0 in WCC play and sending them into 2017 with a big boost of momentum.

After his impressive week, Wintering was rewarded for his efforts. Through a poll on Twitter, he was selected by the fans as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for the week of December 26 – January 1!

Wintering is the first player to receive a Player of the Week award in back-to-back seasons from College Court Report, as he won the award last season for the week of February 1 – 7, 2016. Continue reading College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week: Alec Wintering, Portland Pilots

North Texas transfer DeAndre Harris torched the nets this week for the Nicholls Colonels, averaging 38.5 points per game over the team’s two wins.

There are impact transfers all over the country this season, each paying dividends for their respective institutions.

Over the past seven days, following Christmas and entering the New Year, the case could be made for DeAndre Harris as one of the best players in the entire country.

Heading into the Christmas break, Harris had been finding his stride for the Nicholls Colonels, and out of the break, he continued right where he left off.

Yes, three of the Colonels’ last five games were against non-Division I opponents, but that doesn’t take away from what Harris was able to accomplish on the hardwood.

Colonels’ fans knew they had something special in Harris, and he wasted little time in making an impact with his new team. Against the Boston College Eagles in their season opener, Harris recorded 28 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the Colonels’ 79-73 upset victory on the road.

Since then, he’s been the team’s top scorer on the year. This past week, Harris set a career-high on Wednesday, and reset his career high on Saturday to close out 2016 in style.

Over the two wins for the Colonels this past week, one of which was their Southland Conference opener, Harris averaged a blistering 38.5 points per contest.

For his efforts, graduate transfer DeAndre Harris has been named the College Court Report Player of the Week for the week of December 26 – January 1! Continue reading College Court Report Player of the Week: DeAndre Harris, Nicholls Colonels
