MOBILE, Al. — Richie Riley strikes again for the South Alabama Jaguars.

To begin the off-season, the Jaguars hired Riley after he led the Nicholls Colonels to a record of 21-11 overall, and 15-3 in Southland Conference play. The Colonels earned a share of the regular season conference title with the Southeastern Louisiana Golden Lions.

Now, as the head coach of the Jaguars, Riley is making his mark on the transfer market as he looks to turn South Alabama into a top contender in the Sun Belt Conference. The Jaguars have already landed graduate transfer Kory Holden, who will give the team a big offensive boost.

On Monday, they landed another talented guard who will help the team in 2019-20.

Richie Riley and the Jaguars landed a commitment from guard Don Coleman, who transferred from the California Golden Bears after two seasons. Continue reading California Transfer Don Coleman Commits to South Alabama

MIAMI, Fla. — It’s all about The U.

Quietly, the Miami (FL) Hurricanes are making a run at the title of Transfer U this off-season with their recent string of high-caliber commitments that will help the program both immediately and in the future.

First, it was freshman Anthony Mack, who committed to the Hurricanes after one season in the Mountain West with the Wyoming Cowboys. Then, it was Kameron McGusty, who made the move to the state of Florida after two seasons in the Big 12 under Lon Kruger with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Both players have to sit out the 2018-19 season, but are eligible in 2019-20, giving the Hurricanes a big boost in the future.

However, with key departures from last year’s team, the Hurricanes were looking to land a graduate transfer who could step in and help right away. Late Thursday night, they got the good news that they were hoping for.

Zach Johnson took to his Twitter account to announce that he had committed to The U, choosing the Hurricanes over the likes of the Louisville Cardinals and Creighton Bluejays. Continue reading Zach Johnson Becomes Latest Guard to Commit to Miami (FL)

WILMINGTON, N.C. — One of the NCAA’s most improved front court rotations for the 2018-19 season got a little bit deeper on Thursday by way of the transfer market.

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks already boast the nation’s top rebounder, in big man Devontae Cacok. The 6’7” forward from Riverdale, CA averaged 13.5 rebounds per game as a junior in 2017-18, which led the country. Add in his 17.7 points per contest, and Cacok is easily one of the top forwards in the country.

After sitting out last season due to transfer, Jeantal Cylla is eligible for the 2018-19 season, and adds more depth to the front court. Cylla played two seasons with the Florida Atlantic Owls, where he averaged 7.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2016-17.

On Thursday, the Seahawks added yet another forward to the mix by way of a graduate transfer.

After three seasons with the Georgia Southern Eagles in the Sun Belt Conference, 6’8” forward Shawn O’Connell is on his way to the Colonial Athletic Association to join the Seahawks for his final year of collegiate eligibility. ORONO, Me. — The Maine Black Bears continued to add talent to their roster on Wednesday, as they landed a pair of commitments from players with Division I experience.

Just last week, the Black Bears signed guard Terion Moss after a standout career at Portland High School. He was named Maine’s 2018 Mr. Basketball, and he is a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year for the state. Keeping a player of his caliber in the state of Maine was a huge pickup for the Black Bears.

Now, Maine has added a pair of transfers with experience at the Division I level. One is eligible right away after spending half of last season at the JUCO level, while the other has to sit out the 2018-19 season, but will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Nedeljko Prijovic and Sergio El Darwich have committed to the Black Bears, adding size and depth to the rotation for the Black Bears. Continue reading Nedeljko Prijovic, Sergio El Darwich Commit to Maine
