Wednesday night was a bitter sweet night when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeated the Boston College Eagles. On one hand the Fighting Irish solidified their spot in the double bye club in the up and coming ACC tournament and are still in the hunt to share the regular season title with North Carolina.

The Irish also won their 12th league game and sent seniors Steve Vasturia and VJ Beachem out with a win; something the two of them both deserved considering what they accomplished in their Notre Dame career.

“Couldn’t have script it any better”, said Head Coach Mike Brey following the game. “Two seniors have fun, you can take them out of the game to a standing ovation with a minute and a half left…certainly a great way to finish our season in front of our home crowd”.

Wednesday was the final night that the Irish home crowd would see Vasturia and Beachem suit up in the Purcell Pavilion. Lucky for the Irish (no pun intended), they still have a minimum of three games left to see these two Irish players play; but let’s hope it’s more than the minimum. RECAP: Notre Dame Extends Win Streak To Five After Close Victory Against Georgia Tech

vs-ga-tech-part-2-1

With the regular season winding down, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on pace to get another  double bye in the ACC tournament after a close win against an always tough Georgia Tech team.

The Irish routed the Yellow Jackets 64-60, avenging their two point loss earlier in the season during the time when Notre Dame went through their rough four game losing streak.

This is Notre Dame’s 5th consecutive win, with analysts predicting the Irish to be a 5th seed in the NCAA Tournament.

When asked if whether he was starting to prepare for the up coming tournaments, Coach Mike Brey had this to say:

“Nothing with NCAA tournament stuff right now, I think we’re more focused on positioning ourselves for the ACC tournament…we control our own destiny to finish in the top four”.

If the Irish can manage to win one out of their two remaining games, they should be in good shape to get a double bye even with the Duke Blue Devils hot on their trail.

RECAP: Notre Dame knocks off #14 Florida State behind Colson’s 33-point game

vs-fsu-2-part2

To the media, Notre Dame’s victory over the Florida State Seminoles may have been an upset, but to the Irish, they know they are one of the elite teams in the ACC regardless of their recent four game losing streak.

Notre Dame knocked off the Seminoles 84-72 behind their electric home crowd, getting the Irish back on track after a rough start to the month of February.

Saturday was a sight for many new things such as Steve Vasturia laying down a monster dunk, Irish basketball fans tailgating in February, Temple (TJ) Gibbs entering the starting lineup and Bonzie Colson entering the 1,000 point club at Notre Dame.

With Mike Brey still struggling to find that key 5th member of his starting line up, the coach decided to go to a four guard starting five, giving the freshman, Temple Gibbs, his first start of his career.

“Playing big guys, that maybe overrated!” said a laughing Coach Mike Brey.

The rising freshman entered Saturday’s game averaging 5.3 points and two assists. Gibbs has had five double digit scoring games this season with his last big performance coming against Duke in which he recorded 12 points. Gibbs also had a big game the last time the Irish faced the Seminoles as he scored 12 points.

Notre Dame lost part one of the two game series between the Seminoles, as the Fighting Irish only lost by three in Tallahassee back in January.

The Irish have since fell out of the AP top 25 after a tough four game losing streak, but looked to seek revenge over the #14 Florida State Seminoles with their home crowd to back them up.

The start of the 2016-17 season hasn’t gone according to plan for the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks through their first two games of the year.

A pair of four-point losses at the hands of the George Washington Colonials in the season opener, and in their home opener on Sunday against the UMBC Retrievers, are what the Hawks have to show for their efforts thus far. They’ve been competitive down to the wire, but haven’t been able to grab their first win of the new year.

On Tuesday, the Hawks opened up a five-game road trip with a game against the Boston College Eagles. Despite the Eagles losing their season opener to the Nicholls State Colonels, the Hawks were going to be in tough against their ACC foe.

From the outset of the game, the Eagles were in control of the game. Eastern Shore scored the first basket of the game less than 30 seconds in, but that was the only time they would lead on the night.

Guard Jerome Robinson scored a game-high 16 points, and the Boston College Eagles notched their first win of the season, holding down their home court with a 73-57 victory over the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks. Tom Izzo Wins 500th Career Game as Michigan State Cruises Past Boston College

In the opener of the 2015 Wooden Legacy, Michigan State rolled past Boston College, giving head coach Tom Izzo his 500th career win in the process.

The Michigan State Spartans have been riding high to start the 2015-16 season. After their come-from-behind win over Kansas in the Champions Classic, in which they used a 29 – 12 run to close out the game, the Spartans jumped up to #3 in the AP Top 25 polls.

Against the Jayhawks, Denzel Valentine put up a triple-double of 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in the victory.

Entering the Wooden Legacy, the Spartans held a 4 – 0 record, and have the look of a team who is just getting warmed up. To add some incentive to the game, head coach Tom Izzo was sitting on 499 career wins, and was looking to become the latest coach to reach the 500-win plateau.

They were paired up with the Boston College Eagles to open the 2015 Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, CA. Despite a big performance from Eli Carter, the Eagles were no match for the Spartans on Thursday night.

Behind another triple-double from Denzel Valentine, his second in a span of just nine days, the Spartans rolled to the 99 – 68 victory. Continue reading Tom Izzo Wins 500th Career Game as Michigan State Cruises Past Boston College
