ASHEVILLE, N.C. — It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

March is now in full swing, which means post-season basketball is upon us. Conference tournaments have begun across the country, and teams are looking to build some momentum and advance to a post-season tournament. Every team has their sights set on the NCAA Tournament, and winning their conference tournament would guarantee them a spot in the field of 68.

On Friday night, the Big South Conference will have its semi-finals games take place inside Kimmel Arena in Asheville, North Carolina. Three of the top four seeds still remain, along with the fifth-seed Liberty Flames. The first of two semi-final games has the Radford Highlanders taking on the Winthrop Eagles.

In the second semi-final, the Flames square off against the top-seed UNC Asheville Bulldogs, who won the Big South regular season title by a game over both Radford and Winthrop. Continue reading Liberty Faces Top-Seed UNC Asheville in Big South Tournament Semi-Finals

As we all know from history, not all things go according to plan. Teams atop the conferences right now aren’t guaranteed of a spot in the field of 68, as anything can happen come late-February and early March.

Every year, there are teams that come from the middle of conference standings to make a run at their respective conference tournament title. It will happen again this year, without question, and we will see a few surprise entrants in the bracket come Selection Sunday as conference champions.

Here are five teams who currently sit in the middle of the pack in their respective conferences that could make some noise down the stretch during the regular season and into the post-season.

Assembling a Mid-Major Dream Team for the 2017-18 Season

Jock Landale emerged as one of the nation’s top big men as a junior in 2016-17, increasing his scoring average from 7.9 points per game to 16.9.

CANMORE, Alta. — The level of parity in college basketball in recent years is at an all-time high.

Still, on a nightly basis, mid-major teams are often the underdogs against power conference teams. The likes of the Kentucky WildcatsDuke Blue Devils, and other blue-blood programs land the top high school recruits each season, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a ton of talent elsewhere in the country.

Smaller programs have just as much talent on their roster, but their names don’t come with the same pedigree as the ones in the ESPN Top 100. So, we thought we would filter through all of the mid-major schools and assemble our own Dream Team for the 2017-18 season.

We assembled a 14-man roster that we would want to see play together. The team is open to interpretation, and can be assembled in an endless number of ways. But, this is a team we think would contend with the best of the best in the NCAA.
