LYNCHBURG, Va. — The NCAA Tournament doesn’t get underway until Tuesday night with a pair of First Four games in Dayton, but post-season basketball took place on Monday afternoon and evening.

At 12:00pm EST, the 10th edition of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament got underway in Fort Wayne, IN. Four games were scheduled for Monday in the First Round of the 20-team event, all featuring schools from outside of the power conferences.

In Lynchburg, VA, the Liberty Flames played host to the North Carolina A&T Aggies to kick off the post-season for both teams. Equipped with identical 20-14 records, both teams were looking to pick up a win and advance into the second round of the tournament next week.

All season, the Flames have had one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, and they made things extremely tough for the Aggies on Monday night. Liberty held North Carolina A&T to their lowest offensive output of the season, and rolled to the 65-52 win over the Aggies in the Jim Phelan Classic. LYNCHBURG, Va. — The 2017-18 season is extended for at least one more game for a pair of teams who put together impressive runs during the regular season and conference tournaments.

Monday marks the start of postseason tournament basketball across the NCAA, as the 10th anniversary of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) will begin play with a slew of games across the country. Programs from outside of the power conferences who weren’t selected for the NCAA Tournament or the NIT make up the field and will vie for the tournament title.

Earlier this week, the Liberty Flames accepted an invitation into the 2018 CIT, and they learned who their first opponent would be on Saturday. The Flames will welcome the North Carolina A&T Aggies to Lynchburg, VA on Monday night, with tip-off scheduled for 6:00pm EST.

The game is an intriguing match-up, and both teams are coming off of lengthy runs in their conference tournaments. Here’s what you need to know in advance of Monday night’s tilt between the Flames and the Aggies. BOSTON, Mass. — The CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) is entering its 10th season of operation in 2017-18, and it will look to continue the success it has had over the years.

Back in 2009, College Insider founders Angela Lento and Joe Dwyer took the step of creating a post-season tournament to give more programs from across the country an opportunity to take part in a post-season tournament. It started as a 16-team field, with the Old Dominion Monarchs capturing the inaugural title.

Since then, the field has been expanded to 24-teams, and now sits at a 32-team event that features teams from outside of the high-major conferences. The event has seen its attendance numbers double in each season, per College Insider’s history page, and it will look to continue that this season as the event caps off a successful first decade.

On Wednesday, College Insider announced their 2017-18 selection committee, an extended agreement with CBS Sports, and their CIT Classics Series schedule for the 10th running of the event. LYNCHBURG, Va. — Post-season basketball is back!

On Sunday night, the fields were released for the four post-season tournaments that will take place over the next four weeks. The 68 teams who are participating in the NCAA Tournament were released first, followed by the fields for the NIT, CIT, and CBI.

It’s worth noting that the Vegas Sixteen event that was introduced last season will not be played this season, but the founders are hopeful that it can return next year.

Arguably our favourite tournament, from a sheer team standpoint, is the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The field is composed of ‘mid-major’ programs who are deserving of a post-season berth, and it uses the old NIT format, where there is no set bracket.

The CIT has several marquee games in the first round which pay homage to past coaches in college basketball. They have added several ‘classics’ to this year’s slate, which adds more appeal to the event.

The second annual John McLendon Classic will be played on Monday night, which opens up post-season play across the country. The Liberty Flames will play host to the Norfolk State Spartans, in what is a great way to kick off an exciting three-week stretch of post-season basketball.
