Michigan State, Duke, and North Carolina Headline Phil Knight Invitational to Honour Nike Co-Founder

Nike has done so much for some of the nation’s leading college basketball programs. Several of the top programs across the country don the infamous Nike Swoosh on their jerseys and apparel, and the marketing done by both sides has been a huge success.

On Wednesday, the NCAA and ESPN Events announced an early-season event that will pay homage to Nike co-founder and chairman, Phil Knight, during the 2017-18 season.

The Phil Knight Invitational will see 16 schools from all across the country, who are all sponsored by Nike, converge on the Portland area for two early-season tournaments in celebration of Knight’s 80th birthday.

The 2016-17 college basketball season is just around the corner, and the excitement is building with each passing day. More and more teams are releasing their schedules for the upcoming season, and some teams are on their preseason trips around the world.

With the current season in mind, we assembled our list of the Top 100 Players in College Basketball for the 2016-17 Season!

You’ll notice quickly that there are NO freshmen on the list. There’s one simple reason for that: they have yet to play a regular season game at the Division I level. They can’t be the best in college basketball when they haven’t yet played a game for their school.

The following 100 players are the top 100 returning players from across the country. They were evaluated on two fronts: their overall role on their respective team, and their statistical performances over their collegiate career.

Previewing the ESPN 24-Hour Tip-Off Marathon

The 2015-16 college basketball regular season is in full-swing, and what a weekend it was. Upsets were scattered about, mixed in with record-breaking performances from some of the nation’s best programs.

After the first weekend is in the books, basketball fans from across the nation get geared up for a full 24 hours of top-notch college basketball action, in the form of the ESPN 24-Hour Tip-Off Marathon. From Monday, November 16th at 5:30pm until Tuesday, November 17th at 10:00pm, there are basketball games all throughout. Yes, that means even in the wee hours of the morning, there are basketball games (we see you, Nevada and Hawaii).

The event brings together a handful of the country’s best games over that time frame and all of the games are showcased on ESPN networks. To get you ready for this year’s festivities, we have previewed all of the games for you in one convenient location.

The Connecticut Huskies made a miraculous run through the 2014 NCAA Tournament, captivating the nation en route to winning the 2014 championship. Behind the play of Shabazz Napier, the 7-seed Huskies came away with the tournament title.

With Napier and DeAndre Daniels gone from the championship team, Kevin Ollie and the Huskies struggled in 2014-15. They failed to make the NCAA Tournament despite having the likes of Ryan Boatright and Amida Brimah on the roster.

Looking ahead to 2015-16, and Ryan Boatright is gone from the team. However, Saturday gave the Huskies a much-needed boost up front, and they now have one of the more talented front court duos in the NCAA. Continue reading UConn Lands Cornell-Transfer Shonn Miller
