DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — They had to sweat it out a little bit, but the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats opened the 2018 calendar year on the right foot with an 86-80 win over the visiting South Carolina State Bulldogs in the MEAC opener for both teams.
Wednesday night was a game of runs for both teams, as South Carolina State used a 14-5 run to close the first half to take a 10-point lead into the break. Then, in the second frame, Bethune-Cookman used a 13-0 run to claw their way back before the midway point to make things interesting.
From there, things were back and forth before Jeffrey Altidort put the home side ahead for good with under five minutes to play. Altidort’s three pointer with 4:53 left on the clock gave the Wildcats a 72-71 lead, and they wouldn’t trail the rest of the way.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The 2017 calendar year is nothing but a distant memory.
With 2018 now in full swing, both the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and the South Carolina State Bulldogs are hoping that the New Year brings with it new fortunes on the hardwood. Both teams struggled to close out 2017 and non-conference play, and they are hoping that they can get back on the right track in the New Year.
The Wildcats lost four straight games to close out the year, and have lost six of their last seven outings overall. As for the Bulldogs, they come into Wednesday night riding a two game losing streak of their own following a two game winning streak, and are hoping to get back to their winning ways.
With the match-up marking the start of MEAC play for both teams, there’s no better time than right now to get a win and build some momentum as the grind of conference play gets under way.
