The first Monday of 2017 was an exciting one to say the least. It also left us scratching our heads, asking more questions about preseason conference favourites.

Monday’s slate was made up entirely of mid-major programs, with the majority of games being conference match-ups as the battle for conference supremacy is officially under way.

While no power conference teams were in action, there will still several marquee programs in action. The Monmouth Hawks, Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, and the Little Rock Trojans, who all had stellar seasons a year ago, were all in action on Monday.

All three teams suffered defeats.

Following the slate of games on Monday, we were left with more questions than answers when looking at certain programs, and conferences, as the 2016-17 moves along.

Here are the things you need to know from Monday’s action. Continue reading Monday Headlines: Wide Open Conference Races, Points Galore, and More

Thursday was a busy day in the college basketball world, and a sad one for the basketball world, in general.

The legendary Craig Sager passed away at the age of 65, after a lengthy battle with Leukemia. Fans around the world looked back on their fondest memories of Mr. Sager to pay their respects, as the sporting world lost yet another icon in 2016.

Rest in the sweetest peace, Craig Sager.

On Thursday, the college basketball world offered up some top-notch action, even though there were only a handful of games on the slate. No ranked teams were in action on the night, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t any big time performances to talk about.

The Auburn Tigers tied an SEC record for three pointers in a game, en route to a 45-point win, while yet another NAIA team knocked off a Division I opponent in 2016-17.

We’ve got that, and more, in Thursday’s Headlines. Continue reading Thursday Headlines: Auburn Ties SEC Record for Threes in a Game, Another Division I Team Falls to NAIA Opponent, and More

Thursday night may have only had 11 games on the slate, but it most definitely provided its fair share of excitement, and then some.

Two ranked teams were in action on the night. They both lost.

A Conference USA powerhouse took on yet another team from the SEC. They won for the third straight time against teams from the conference.

There were some career-best performances across the country (Shamorie Ponds and Maurius Hill, we’re talking about you), and an ugly performance from the Fordham Rams.

Despite only having 11 games on tap, Thursday was a night to remember. Here are Thursday’s Headlines. Continue reading Thursday Headlines: UT-Arlington Scores First-Ever Win over a Ranked Team, Middle Tennessee Wreaks Havoc on the SEC, and More

With the exception of November and early-season tournaments, Mondays tend to be one of the quieter days of the week in the college basketball world. The first Monday of December was no different, as only a handful of games took place across the country.

That doesn’t mean there weren’t any exciting games.

Conference play in the MAAC was underway, and the Siena Saints paid a visit to the Rider Broncs to cap off what was an exciting weekend for the conference as a whole. There was a big time showdown inside the infamous Madison Square Garden, where two teams were looking for a resume-boosting win early in the year.

There was a 42-point game in Bozeman, MT, and the night cap in Portland went to double overtime.

Here are Monday’s Headlines. Continue reading Monday Headlines: Rider Broncs, Connecticut Huskies Notch Crucial Wins, Tyler Hall’s Career Night, and More
