EAST LANSING, Mich. — Like plenty of other conferences throughout the NCAA this season, the Big Ten standings are a hot mess.

Two teams, the Purdue Boilermakers and Ohio State Buckeyes, are a perfect 7-0 in conference play. While many expected Purdue to be in the thick of things, the work that Chris Holtmann has done with Ohio State is stellar in year one. Six teams below them are within four games of the conference lead, but no team is within 2.5 games of the leaders.

The middle of the conference is a log jam, and two teams will go head-to-head on Friday night to try and gain a bit of separation from the pack. In East Lansing, the Michigan State Spartans and Indiana Hoosiers will square off in a battle of two teams trending in opposite directions.

Just over a week ago, the Spartans were the top-ranked team in the country. Now, after two losses over their last three games, Michigan State comes in ranked ninth in the country. On the flip side, the Hoosiers suffered two losses to in-state opponents on their home floor in non-conference play, but are riding a three game winning streak into the Breslin Center.

Here’s what you need to know in advance of the first of two regular season meetings between Michigan State and Indiana. Continue reading Michigan State Basketball: Previewing the Indiana Hoosiers

SOUTH BEND, In. — Coming off a 10-point victory over the Dartmouth Big Green in their last outing, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be closing out their non-conference slate against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on Thursday December 21st at the Purcell Pavilion.

This will be the first meeting between the Fighting Irish and the Lions, but the seventh between Notre Dame and a member of the Southland Conference. Notre Dame is 6-0 against teams of the Southland, with the last win coming against the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, where Rex Pflueger tipped in the last second bucket to propel the Irish to victory.

Thursday’s contest will be the final game before the players travel back home to spend the holiday season with their families.

Let’s take a closer look inside this match-up:

SOUTH BEND, In. — The Notre Dame Fighting Irish bounced back from their over time loss to the Indiana Hoosiers by beating the Dartmouth Big Green on Tuesday night, 97-87.

Notre Dame is now 6-0 in their all-time series against Dartmouth, and has improved to 9-3 on the season.

The Fighting Irish have had a rough past few games. They have recently been kicked out of the AP Top 25  and are struggling to find their identity. The struggles continued for the Irish, but it seems every team that plays Notre Dame gives a little more effort than normal.

SOUTH BEND, In. — After a three point loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will have to shift gears quickly to Dartmouth, as the Big Green are traveling to South Bend for a Tuesday night match-up inside Purcell Pavilion.

This will be the sixth meeting between the Irish and the Big Green, with Notre Dame holding a 5-0 lead. These two teams last met back in 2011, when the Irish rolled past the Big Green, 65-47.

Per ESPN, Notre Dame has a 97% chance to win this game against Dartmouth, but the Fighting Irish cannot afford to take the Ivy League school lightly. The Irish should have blown out Indiana, as they were the better team, but they continued to let them back in it. Notre Dame can’t afford to let any of their opponents back in it, regardless of how weak they may seem.

After the struggles they have had in their last few non-conference games, Notre Dame must give the same attention to the Big Green as they would teams like the Duke Blue Devils.

INDIANAPOLIS, In. — Another year is in full swing, and another edition of the Crossroads Classic is upon us.

For the last six seasons, the Butler Bulldogs, Purdue Boilermakers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Indiana Hoosiers have all ascended on BankersLife Fieldhouse for a two-game showcase. With two teams from the Big Ten, the Hoosiers and Boilermakers alternate opponents each season. The 2017 edition marks the seventh edition of the event, and it shouldn’t disappoint.

Notre Dame and Indiana enter Saturday’s showdown with identical 3-3 records in the event. The Hoosiers hold a 2-1 edge over the Fighting Irish in their head-to-head match-ups. They last met in 2015, with the Hoosiers scoring an 80-73 win over Notre Dame.

On Saturday, both teams will be looking for a big win that could get them back on the right track after some shaky moments early in the 2017-18 season.

Here’s what you need to know in advance of their showdown as part of the 2017 Crossroads Classic.

2017-18 MTE and Neutral Site Showcase Preview Series: Crossroads Classic

Bonzie Colson is a front-runner for the Wooden Award in 2017-18, and he will look to help lead Notre Dame to a win over Indiana in the 2017 Crossroads Classic.

CALGARY, Alta. — The 2017-18 season is just around the corner, and while there’s a debate on Twitter as to when the season actually starts, it can’t get here soon enough.

Schedules are being released with each passing weekday, and many of them feature early-season tournaments and multi-team events all throughout non-conference play. According to Chris Dobbertean and Blogging the Bracket, there are over 30 multi-team tournaments, and another handful of neutral site showcases and non-exempt events.

So, with the season coming up, we thought we would go through and preview all of the early-season tournaments, the non-exempt tournaments, and a wide array of the neutral site showcase events. In total, we will preview 75 different events over the course of the next 75 days, culminating on opening day.

We selected the events at random, and have broken some up into two pieces, like the Phil Knight Invitational, since there are two separate brackets.

Today, we take a look at the 2017 Crossroads Classic. Continue reading 2017-18 MTE and Neutral Site Showcase Preview Series: Crossroads Classic
