CANMORE, Alta. — It’s no secret that the Oakland Golden Grizzlies are the team to beat in the Horizon League this season, especially with the departure of the Valparaiso Crusaders to the Missouri Valley Conference.

They have one of the more experienced roster in the country, headlined by five seniors. They have a trio of Horizon League Player of the Year contenders, in Jalen HayesKendrick Nunn, and Martez Walker. All three players have started their 2017-18 season strong, and the Golden Grizzlies are starting to round into form.

Over the past week, Oakland took to the court three times. They came into the week with a 2-3 record, and were looking to get back on the right track. Two of the three games were away from home, so the Golden Grizzlies still had their work cut out for themselves.

Thanks in large part to Walker, who posted a pair of 30+ scoring performances over the week, Oakland came away with a perfect 3-0 record. They pushed their record above the .500 mark in the process, and showed that they are truly rounding into form.

For his efforts this past week, a stretch that saw him average more than 28 points per game in three wins, Oakland senior guard Martez Walker has been named the College Court Report Player of the Week for November 27 – December 3, 2017! College Court Report 2017-18 Preseason Awards: Horizon League

Cameron Morse has been one of the nation’s top scorers over the past two seasons, yet he doesn’t garner much attention outside of the Horizon League from the national media.

CANMORE, Alta. —  The 2017-18 season tips off on November 10th, which means the final month without college basketball is finally upon us.

Fans all across the country are gearing up for another exciting college basketball season, and with the recent scandal involving the FBI and several power conference programs across the NCAA, the level of anticipation is through the roof.

Conference preview pieces are starting to circulate from various media outlets, and conferences are hosting their annual media days and announcing their preseason polls and award winners. It’s always interesting to see how coaches and media rank teams in their respective conferences.

With the season right around the corner, we are starting to release our Preseason Player of the Year awards for each conference, along with three All-Conference teams. Picked at random, we will release two sets of awards each day.

Heading into the 2017-18 season, the Horizon League makeup looks a little bit different than in year’s past. The Valparaiso Crusaders have moved to the Missouri Valley Conference, and in their place, the IUPUI Jaguars accepted an invitation to join the league from the Summit League.

With the departure of the Crusaders, a new program will emerge as the regular season champion. Will it be the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, who welcome a power conference transfer to bolster their back court rotation? Or the UIC Flames, who have a young, but talented roster that’s arguably the deepest in the conference? What about the Northern Kentucky Norse, who won the conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season?

Only time will tell.

Until then, take a look below at who we’ve tabbed as our Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year, and our Preseason All-Horizon League teams!

CALGARY, Alta. — The 2017-18 season is just around the corner, and while there’s a debate on Twitter as to when the season actually starts, it can’t get here soon enough.

Schedules are being released with each passing weekday, and many of them feature early-season tournaments and multi-team events all throughout non-conference play. According to Chris Dobbertean and Blogging the Bracket, there are over 30 multi-team tournaments, and another handful of neutral site showcases and non-exempt events.

So, with the season coming up, we thought we would go through and preview all of the early-season tournaments, the non-exempt tournaments, and a wide array of the neutral site showcase events. In total, we will preview 75 different events over the course of the next 75 days, culminating on opening day.

We selected the events at random, and have broken some up into two pieces, like the Phil Knight Invitational, since there are two separate brackets.

Today, we take a look at the HoopHall Miami Invitational. Continue reading 2017-18 MTE and Neutral Site Showcase Preview Series: HoopHall Miami Invitational
