Purdue Overcomes Slow Start to Rout Cal State Fullerton, 74-48

DETROIT, Mich. — It’s not necessarily how you start, but how you finish.

For the Purdue Boilermakers, that rang true on Friday afternoon in their 2018 NCAA Tournament opener against the Cal State Fullerton Titans. The Boilermakers are the two-seed in the East Region, and were taking on the Big West Conference champions, who came into the tournament seeded 15th.

Friday marked the first time that the Boilermakers and Titans have met on the hardwood. While the odds were heavily on Purdue’s side coming into the event, the Titans weren’t lacking confidence in themselves on Media Day.

Cal State Fullerton Landed Kyle Allman Jr. Thanks to a YouTube Video

DETROIT, Mich. – It’s no secret that recruiting a player is an expensive venture for all schools across the country. When a player is 3,000 miles away, that expense only increases.

For the Cal State Fullerton Titans, they landed one of their best players in an unconventional way thanks in part to an online YouTube video.

Kyle Allman Jr. is originally from Brooklyn, NY, and played basketball at the High School for Construction-Trades, Engineering, and Architecture in Queens. Titans’ head coach Dedrique Taylor and assistant coach John Smith were watching another player when they first saw Allman play.
