Liberty closes out the 2017 Paradise Jam with win over Quinnipiac

LYNCHBURG, Va. — On the final day of the 2017 Paradise Jam, the host Liberty Flames ended the tournament with an 84-72 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats in the 7th-Place game.

Three players scored double-figures for the Flames including a career-high 21 points from Scottie James, who also recorded a game-high eight rebounds.

With the win, Liberty improves to 3-2 on the season while Quinnipiac falls to 1-3. Liberty was efficient on the boards, out-rebounding the Bobcats, 32-21, which led to 14 second-chance points for the Flames. Liberty Flames open the 2017 Paradise Jam Against Mercer

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Due to severe damage in the U.S. Virgin Islands as a result of the multiple hurricanes and natural disasters over the summer months, the 2017 Paradise Jam was relocated to Lynchburg, VA, home of the Liberty Flames.

On Friday, the three-day event tips off with the home team taking part in the first contest. Twelve games will be played over the weekend, with some potential marquee match-ups on the horizon.

However, one of the top match-ups that the event could produce happens to be the one that kicks everything off. The host Flames take on the senior-laden Mercer Bears to open the event.

Liberty Flames to host 2017 Paradise Jam in Lynchburg, Virginia

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Tournament directors for the 2017 Paradise Jam announced on Friday that the event will be relocated to the Liberty University Vines Center, from Nov. 17-19.

The Paradise Jam was relocated from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands due to Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria.

Friday marks the second event that has been moved due to damage from hurricanes this summer. The 2017 Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament was recently moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The tournament received several proposals to host from the participating schools with the tournament directors ultimately selection to host the 12-game event in Lynchburg. The eight-team tournament includes the Colorado BuffaloesDrake BulldogsDrexel Dragons, Houston Cougars, Mercer Bears, Quinnipiac BobcatsWake Forest Demon Deacons, and the host Liberty Flames.
