SARNIA, Ont. — The off-season following the 2017-18 season is in full swing, which means it’s time to look ahead at the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Only 207 days to go!

Until then, there will be plenty of player and team news to keep us more than occupied. With each passing day, some players are making their decisions to transfer from their current institutions, while others are committing to their new schools for next season and beyond. Some days are much busier than others with news, making it tough to keep up with everything.

With that said, the first edition of Transfer Talk is here for your convenience. From Monday through to Friday, we will recap the news from the previous day on the transfer market, giving it all to you in one, easy-to-read article.

If a player decides to transfer, you’ll find it here. If a player commits to a new school, it’ll be here. If a player releases his short list of schools, chances are it’ll be here as well. I’m only human, and chances are I’ll miss some news here and there as well, so bear with me.

On Thursday, two big names hit the open market, while several transfers have either trimmed their list of schools or have set up visits in the coming weeks. Continue reading Transfer Talk: Eric Lockett and Nazeer Bostick Transfer, Plus Updates on James Scott, Darious Hall, and Others

EAST LANSING, Mich. — All season long, the Michigan State Spartans have started games slow before pulling away in the second half for wins.

Last time out, they were down 13 to the Maryland Terrapins at the half. In the second frame, they put up 50 points against the Terrapins, and came away with a six point win, 74-68. They’ve skirted danger on many occasions in 2017-18, but only have three losses to their name.

On Wednesday night, the Penn State Nittany Lions took a six point lead into the break, and stretched their lead to double figures early in the second frame. However, the Spartans found their groove once again and thwarted any upset bid from the Nittany Lions.

Thanks to another second half performance that saw the Spartans go for 52 points, Michigan State pushed their winning streak to five games with the 76-68 win over the visiting Nittany Lions on Wednesday. Continue reading No. 5 Michigan State Overcomes Slow Start for 76-68 Win Over Penn State

Three Games that could lead to Upsets on Opening Night

The high-scoring Chris Clemons leads Campbell into an opening-night battle with Penn State.

CANMORE, Alta. — Waking up on Friday morning will be just like Christmas morning for college basketball fanatics everywhere.

The 2017-18 season gets underway at 10:30am ET, as the Eastern Michigan Eagles take on Spring Arbor in the first game of the season. There’s a full slate of games on Friday that is sure to please everyone. The vast majority of programs are in action throughout the day, and there are some must-see games on tap.

Like this guide mentions, mismatches take place each and every day on the hardwood. Many look at the match-ups and pick a winner based on the prestige of the schools alone. That could very well happen again this week, and most times, people would be right.

However, here are three games to keep an eye on during Friday’s action-packed slate, as the result could go in favour of the visitors when all is said and done.

2017-18 MTE and Neutral Site Showcase Preview Series: Legends Classic, Host Bracket

Robert Williams (44) surprised many with his decision to return to school for his sophomore season. Now, he will look to lead Texas A&M into contention in the SEC in 2017-18.

CALGARY, Alta. — The 2017-18 season is just around the corner, and while there’s a debate on Twitter as to when the season actually starts, it can’t get here soon enough.

Schedules are being released with each passing weekday, and many of them feature early-season tournaments and multi-team events all throughout non-conference play. According to Chris Dobbertean and Blogging the Bracket, there are over 30 multi-team tournaments, and another handful of neutral site showcases and non-exempt events.

So, with the season coming up, we thought we would go through and preview all of the early-season tournaments, the non-exempt tournaments, and a wide array of the neutral site showcase events. In total, we will preview 75 different events over the course of the next 75 days, culminating on opening day.

We selected the events at random, and have broken some up into two pieces, like the Phil Knight Invitational, since there are two separate brackets.

Today, we take a look at the Host Bracket of the 2017 Legends Classic. Continue reading 2017-18 MTE and Neutral Site Showcase Preview Series: Legends Classic, Host Bracket

Big Ten Power Rankings: Does anyone have a shot at the national title?

Caleb Swanigan is a top contender for the Wooden Award, and his play has the Purdue Boilermakers near the top of the Big Ten standings.
Caleb Swanigan is a top contender for the Wooden Award, and his play has the Purdue Boilermakers near the top of the Big Ten standings.

Despite an up-and-down start to the year for several teams in the Big Ten, conference play always presents new opportunities.

Entering the 2017 calendar year, odds-makers from across the country still had a handful of Big Ten teams among the best betting odds to be cutting down the nets in Phoenix come the first Monday of April.

The likes of the Indiana HoosiersWisconsin Badgers, and Purdue Boilermakers look to be the conference’s best bets to have a Big Ten cut down the nets.

However, the National Championship is still over two months away, and the Big Ten conference is a mess. There’s no clear-cut favourite at this moment in the season, teams are losing games they should win, and vice versa. There are several ‘good’ teams in the conference, but no ‘great’ teams.

We tried to dissect the teams in the conference, and rank them to the best of our abilities. So, here goes nothing.

With the clock changing to midnight, the calendar has officially switched over to November 11th, and it’s the day we’ve all been waiting for since April.

It’s officially opening day for college basketball!

At 12:00pm EST, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will take on Milligan, and the 2016-17 season will officially be underway. The day is chalked full of games, giving fans plenty of opportunities to satisfy the craving of college basketball.

With games come upsets, and as we learned last season, no team is safe from them. From the Blue Raiders’ win over the highly-favoured Michigan State Spartans in the NCAA Tournament, to a handful of upsets on opening night, anyone can seemingly beat anyone on any given night.

The first day of action in 2016-17 is no exception. There is potential for upsets all over the slate on Friday. Below are three power conference teams who should be weary of an upset on opening night.
