CALGARY, Alta. — Back when the 2016-17 season began, some ‘experts’ had the North Carolina Central Eagles dropping off a bit this season in the MEAC standings.

However, LeVelle Moton has the Eagles right at the top of the conference once again, and they are a threat to knock off a power conference team or two if they are able to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

As of February 13th, the Eagles are the only team in the MEAC with a record above .500 for the year. They also have a half-game lead atop the conference standings over the Norfolk State Spartans.

A big reason for the Eagles’ success this year has been the play of senior guard Patrick Cole. In his second year at North Carolina Central, the 6’5” guard has continued to stuff the stat sheet on both ends of the floor. Cole possesses a strong all-round game, and he is one of the best all-round players in the country.

This past week was another perfect example of his talents on both ends of the court. Cole scored 27 points in each of the Eagles’ two wins this past week, and shot 9-of-18 on both nights.

For his efforts this past week, North Carolina Central senior Patrick Cole has been named the College Court Report Player of the Week for the week of February 6 – 12, 2017! Continue reading College Court Report Player of the Week: Patrick Cole, North Carolina Central Eagles

CALGARY, Alb. — Even without the services of Perrion Callandret, who has only played in a pair of games this season, the Idaho Vandals have quietly become one of the top contenders in the Big Sky Conference.

Following this past week’s performances, which saw them win a pair of games on their home floor, the Vandals are in fourth spot in the conference standings at 7-4, and sit 2.5 games behind the conference leading Weber State Wildcats.

The Vandals are arguably the hottest team in the conference right now, having won three straight games, and six of their last seven overall. Five of their six wins have been by double-figures, and Idaho is a perfect 4-0 on their home floor over those seven games.

A big reason for their hot play as of late? The play of Victor Sanders.

The junior out of Portland, OR has been one of the conference’s best players all season long, and he’s having himself quite the career at Idaho. On Saturday, Sanders eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career, and he sits at 1,016 points for his career.

After a big week that saw him record at least 31 points in two games this past week, Victor Sanders was selected by the fans as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for the week of January 30 – February 5, 2017!

Blake Hamilton continued his strong play as of late with two 20+ point performances this past week, leading Buffalo to a pair of MAC wins.
Blake Hamilton continued his strong play as of late with two 20+ point performances this past week, leading Buffalo to a pair of MAC wins.

CALGARY, Alb. — Last season, the Buffalo Bulls turned some heads with their run through the MAC Tournament and into the field of 68 in the NCAA Tournament.

While it’s a new season, the Bulls are turning heads once again as March is fast approaching.

Coming into the year, it looked as though the Ohio Bobcats were the clear favourite in the MAC. When forward Antonio Campbell went down with a season-ending injury last month, the conference race became wide open.

The Akron Zips had emerged as a top contender for the title, and despite their first conference loss this past week, the Zips are three games ahead of anyone else in the MAC.

Several teams are on the rise ,and one of those teams is Buffalo. The Bulls lost to the Zips by a single point last week, but they came back in a big way this past week.

The play of senior Blake Hamilton was a big factor in the Bulls’ two victories. Hamilton put the team on his back and put together back-to-back 20+ point performances to help get Buffalo back to .500 in conference play.

For his efforts over the past week, a seven-day stretch that saw the Bulls knock off a tough opponent at home, then score a 27-point win on the road over the weekend, senior forward Blake Hamilton has been named the College Court Report Player of the Week for the week of January 30 – February 5, 2017!

CALGARY, Alb. — Before Kevin Hervey went down with a season-ending injury last season, the UT-Arlington Mavericks had the look of an NCAA Tournament team. They looked like the top threat to the Little Rock Trojans in the race for the Sun Belt title.

Following his injury, the Mavericks fell off their hot start to the season, and had to settle for a berth in the 2016 CollegeInsider.Com tournament. While a post-season berth is an impressive feat, fans of the Mavericks were left wondering ‘what if’.

The 2016-17 season is in the midst of conference play, and fans are seeing what a healthy Hervey can do against the rest of the Sun Belt.

Entering the week, the Mavericks were second in the conference, trailing only the Georgia Southern Eagles for top spot. They had two tough games on tap, one each at home and on the road, and needed two wins to keep pace atop the Sun Belt.

Behind the play of Hervey, who averaged a double-double for the week, the Mavericks scored two big wins by an average of 26.5 points.

For his efforts this past week, basketball fans selected Kevin Hervey as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for the week of January 23 – 29, 2017!

After changing his habits during the summer, and putting in work to improve his ball-handling and jump shot, senior forward T.J. Cline has become one of the most well-rounded players in the NCAA in 2016-17.

CALGARY, Alb. — Coming into the season, he wanted to make a name for himself. He wrote a story through The Players’ Tribune back at the end of November, entitled “Making a Name for Myself.”

After a summer where he worked on improving his ball handling, jump shot, eating habits and sleep patterns, he has become one of the top players in the entire NCAA.

His name is T.J. Cline, and the senior has the Richmond Spiders making noise when nobody expected them to.

Thanks to some help from Nancy Lieberman, who is an assistant coach with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, or ‘mom’ as she’s known to Cline, the native of Plano, TX is reaping the rewards from a summer of hard work and dedication to the game of basketball.

Last week, Cline had himself one of the best two-game stretches of his career, and he etched his name into the record books at Richmond in the process. He averaged a double-double across two wins for the Spiders, and recorded the first triple-double in school history on Saturday afternoon.

For his efforts this past week, one where the Spiders won a pair of home games and kept pace with other top teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference, senior forward T.J. Cline has been named the College Court Report Player of the Week for the week of January 23 – 29, 2017!

After a pair of 24-point performances this past week, guard Dequon Miller was selected as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for his efforts.
After a pair of 24-point performances this past week, guard Dequon Miller was selected as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for his efforts.

CALGARY, Alb. — For the first time this season, a school has its second award winner.

Earlier this season, junior forward Alize Johnson took home the first-ever Fan-Voted Player of the Week award after an impressive first week of the year for the Missouri State Bears.

Now, for the second time this season, fans of the Bears showed their love and appreciation for the effort their players give on the hardwood.

The Bears have looked like a top contender in the Missouri Valley Conference this season, and they took two more steps towards the conference title this past week. Wins over the Indiana State Sycamores on the road, and the Bradley Braves at home, the Bears improved to 5-3 in conference play.

A big reason for their two wins was the play of senior Dequon Miller. The native of Charleston, W.V. set a new career-high with 24 points against the Sycamores, and then matched it against the Braves just three days later.

After helping to lead the Bears to a pair of big wins, basketball fans selected Dequon Miller as the College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week for the week of January 16 – 22, 2017! Continue reading College Court Report Fan-Voted Player of the Week: Dequon Miller, Missouri State Bears
