WASHINGTON, D.C. — Charles Williams had himself a stellar freshman campaign in 2016-17 for the Howard Bison, and he hasn’t slowed down in year two.

Add in the play of freshman RJ Cole in 2017-18, and the Bison have arguably the best young tandem in the MEAC, and one that could rival the top pairs from other conferences around the country. When Howard welcomed the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks to town on Monday night, the pair were at their best as the Bison looked for the regular season series sweep of the Hawks.

Back in January, the Bison picked up an 85-75 win over the Hawks in Princess Anne, MD, behind 28 points from Cole.

On Monday, it was the same result for Howard, but by a much larger margin. The Bison used three big runs in the first half to take a 44-16 at the break, and they would go onto win by that same margin of 28 points. Howard cruised to the 84-56 win over Eastern Shore to complete the regular season sweep. Continue reading Howard Routs Maryland-Eastern Shore by 28 Behind Williams, Cole

LONDON, Ont. — To say the least, the 2017-18 college basketball season has been an exciting one, and we still have over two months of action left before another dreaded off-season.

Conference play is in full swing for every league across the NCAA, and the contenders are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. There have been several surprise teams, both for the better and for the worse, that have caused some shakeups in leagues that many thought were locks for particular teams this season.

With the excitement comes the plethora of emerging young talents from coast to coast. Freshmen from all across the country have emerged as potential stars with their respective programs, and have taken on starring roles in their first seasons in the NCAA.

For whatever reason, the majority of freshmen outside of the Big Seven conferences (B1G, B12, Pac-12, ACC, SEC, AAC, BEast) don’t get their fair share of attention on a national scale. Most media outlets will only focus on the biggest names and the top programs, all while turning a blind eye to players who are just as deserving. One player, in particular, ranks sixth in the nation in scoring, yet many fans don’t know his name.

That needs to change, and in a hurry.

Here are 11 freshmen that fans from coast to coast need to become familiar with, as they are poised  for big things over their collegiate careers, including one of the nation’s elite scorers who just so happens to play in the nation’s capital.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Another snow storm has been wreaking havoc on the East Coast of the United States of America.

Snow has been falling down in the state of Florida, which is unusual to say the least. Up farther, snow and sub-zero temperatures in Washington, D.C. caused infrastructure damage to Burr Gymnasium, which caused a time and location change for Saturday’s tilt between the host Howard Bison and the visiting Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.

According to Bethune-Cookman men’s basketball on Twitter on Friday, the game was moved from 4pm to 6pm EST, and the game was going to be played at nearby Trinity Washington University. For those who are wondering, it’s about a five-minute drive from Burr Gymnasium to Trinity Washington University.

Saturday marks the second game of conference play for both teams. The Wildcats are tied atop the conference standings at 1-0, while the Bison fell in their first outing. Both are looking to pick up a win and give themselves a boost of momentum as conference play kicks into high gear.

Here’s what you need to know in advance of Saturday’s neutral court showdown between Bethune-Cookman and Howard.
