DALLAS, Tex. — The holiday break has come and gone, and college basketball is set to get underway once again on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday marks the start of conference play for many teams across the country, and with that comes a plethora of intriguing match-ups as a late Christmas gift for fans across the nation. One of those must-see games will take place in Dallas, as the SMU Mustangs put their 31-game home winning streak on the line against the visiting UCF Knights.

Both teams come out of the holiday break riding winning streaks, and have the look of two top teams in the American Athletic Conference race this season. A win for either team will boost their confidence, as they try to keep pace with the Wichita State Shockers.

In 2016-17, the Mustangs won both meetings against the Knights. They picked up a 65-60 win in Orlando in their only regular season meeting, then added a 70-59 win in the AAC Tournament. UCF will look to score a little revenge on Wednesday night on the Mustangs’ home court.

Here’s what you need to know in advance of Wednesday’s AAC tilt between UCF and SMU.

The post-Larry Brown era continues to be promising in Dallas, Texas.

Per Jon Rothstein, former South Florida superstar Jahmal McMurray has committed to SMU. The explosive 6’0″ scoring guard is currently in JUCO but will be eligible to suit up in December, once the fall semester concludes. He has two years of eligibility remaining following next season.

McMurray, an AAC All-Rookie selection last season, averaged 20.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in three games this season. Although the Kansas native missed the first six games for an undisclosed violation, he displayed great growth and efficiency by shooting 43.1% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc — both of which were significant improvements from his initial campaign.  Continue reading Jahmal McMurray commits to SMU, eligible December 2017

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish returned to action Wednesday night after a nine day Christmas break, taking down the Saint Peter’s Peacocks 63-55.

Notre Dame remained in the AP Top 25 in their first game back , checking in at #24.

The (5-7) Peacocks were coming off a win against the St Francis (BKN) Terriers after a three game losing streak that included a loss to the Maryland Terrapins by only 10 points.

Notre Dame was coming off a win as well, taking down the Colgate Raiders before a surprise visit from Matt Farrell’s brother Bo stole the spotlight, as the military solider surprised his younger brother heading into the holiday season.

While some time away from the program was needed as noted by head coach Mike Brey, the Irish squad could not afford to take the Peacocks lightly.

The 2016-17 college basketball season is just around the corner, and the excitement is building with each passing day. More and more teams are releasing their schedules for the upcoming season, and some teams are on their preseason trips around the world.

With the current season in mind, we assembled our list of the Top 100 Players in College Basketball for the 2016-17 Season!

You’ll notice quickly that there are NO freshmen on the list. There’s one simple reason for that: they have yet to play a regular season game at the Division I level. They can’t be the best in college basketball when they haven’t yet played a game for their school.

The following 100 players are the top 100 returning players from across the country. They were evaluated on two fronts: their overall role on their respective team, and their statistical performances over their collegiate career.

Let us know your thoughts on the list, by either leaving a comment or letting us know on Twitter and Facebook!
