Transfer Talk: Chris Darrington to Toledo, Plus Several Stars Move to Division I

SARNIA, Ont. — Friday the 13th was a quiet day on the transfer market, as none of the big names committed to new schools for next season and beyond.

With that said, several teams from across the NCAA got better with the moves that did take place over the course of the day. A handful of schools landed commitments from players outside of Division I, while one new head coach in particular landed his first major recruit.

In addition to the commitments, a pair of players announced their intentions to transfer from their respective programs. Late Thursday night, a player that took part in the 2018 National Championship game announced his intentions to transfer, while another who advanced to the Elite Eight transferred on Friday.

Liberty Basketball: Previewing the Alabama State Hornets

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Friday’s contest marks the end of non-conference play for both the Liberty Flames and Alabama State Hornets, and both are looking to cap things off with a win.

Both the Flames and Hornets lost their first games at the New Orleans Shootout on Thursday. Liberty fell to the Fort Wayne Mastodons, 75-74, while Alabama State failed to pick up their first win of the season against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, 74-62. With Friday being the last opportunity for both schools to build some momentum before the grind of conference play begins, you can bet both will look to come out of the gate strong.

Liberty and Alabama State square off at 1:00pm EST, with the Mastodons and Bulldogs set to square off shortly after the completion of the first game. The games are being played at the Xavier Convocation Center, which is home to the Xavier University of Louisiana Gold Rush (men) and Gold Nuggets (women).

Hawai’i Stays Undefeated at Home With a 72-60 Win Against Prairie View A&M

HONOLULU — The Hawai’i Warriors beat the Prairie View A&M Panthers, 72-60, inside the Stan Sheriff Center late Wednesday night.

The Warriors will take the win, even though it was one of their ugliest games of the season.

Bethune-Cookman Pulls Away in Second Half for 87-78 win over Grambling

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. — The second full week of the 2017-18 college basketball season is in full swing, with several marquee early-season events taking place over the next few days.

On Tuesday, the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats welcomed the Grambling Tigers to Daytona Beach in conjunction with the Ramblin’ Wreck Showcase. The Wildcats were coming off a close three-point loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their last outing, while the Tigers were looking to end their three-game losing streak to open the year.

After the Wildcats opened the scoring on a free throw from Shawntrez Davis, the Tigers went on a 9-0 run to take an early eight-point lead. They would hold the lead until the midway point of the first half, until a three ball from Soufiyane Diakite tied the game at 16-all with 10:36 left on the clock.

Duke Remains Perfect in 2017-18 with win over Southern

DURHAM, NC. – The challenge of being the top-ranked team in college basketball is that everyone wants to knock you off. There is not going to be an easy game for the Blue Devils all season long.

On Friday night, the Duke Blue Devils continued their hot start to the season, beating the Southern University Jaguars, 78-61.

Hawai’i Begins Their Season with an 82-70 Victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff

HONOLULU — The Hawai’i Warriors opened up their 2017-18 season with a with an 82-70 win against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Friday’s contest was a part of the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic.

Senior forwards Mike Thomas and Gibson Johnson poured in 19 points a piece, with junior forward Jack Purchase also contributing 18 of his own.
